The 1900 year boundary needs a documented convention

A birth before that instant may still use the preceding year pillar under the BaZi convention, while popular zodiac tables may switch at Lunar New Year. If a historical record gives only a date near the boundary, preserve the uncertainty and name which calendar convention is being used.
Geng Zi Metal Rat is a cycle coordinate, not a biography
1900 is Geng Zi (庚子), the 37th position in the traditional 60-year stem-branch cycle. Rat supplies the earthly branch and Metal supplies the element, so the phrase is more precise than calling every Rat year identical.
The same designation returns in 1960, but repeated symbols do not repeat a person's family, migration, education, work or historical conditions. A cycle coordinate can organize records without pretending that it explains a whole life.
